The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office will be offering a Basic Police Sniper school May 21-25, 2012. This school will certify and prepare snipers for operational use. Class curriculum includes basic weapon operation and safety, familiarization with internal and exterior ballistics, recommended policy and procedures, deployment considerations, hostage rescue, range estimation, field-craft/camouflage, observation and reporting, command fire, positional shooting, data book entry and diagramming. All students will develop rifle data to 300 yards. This course is pass or fail, with written and practical tests.
The cost of the course is $250.00 per applicant. Training will be held at 150 Sheriff’s Range Road, near the I-49/Airbase Road exit in Alexandria, LA. You can contact Sgt. Equipment Requirements:
Sniper rifle (.308 recommended) with quality scope, sling and case (drag bag or hard case), binoculars, cleaning equipment, hearing protection, BDU’s or uniforms, note taking supplies, calculator, camouflage equipment (ghillie or other), cold/wet weather gear and 500 rounds of match grade ammunition.
We recommend you bring a log book or something similar to record rifle data, sunscreen, insect protection, snacks and water.
